Privacy policy
Introduction
This policy explains what information Guitar, Ukulele & Bass Tuner ("the app") handles and where it goes. The app is made by Winton Gee ("we" or "us"). In short: there is no account, no analytics and no server of ours. The microphone is used only while the tuner screen is open, and sound is analyzed on your iPhone and never recorded, stored or sent. The only data that leaves the device is purchase information, handled by RevenueCat and Apple, and a feedback email if you choose to send one.
Information stored on your iPhone
The app stores the following on your iPhone, in its own storage. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your tuning setup: the instrument, the tuning and the string you picked, so the tuner opens where you left it.
- Your settings: the A4 reference pitch and your theme.
The microphone
The app asks for the microphone so it can hear the string you are tuning. It uses the microphone only while the tuner screen is open, and stops when you leave the screen or the app. Sound is analyzed in memory on your iPhone to find the pitch, then discarded. It is never recorded, stored or sent, to us or to anyone else.
You can turn the microphone off at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. The reference tones and tuning charts keep working without it.
Feedback
Something wrong? Tell us, in the app's Settings, opens a mail draft addressed to us. The app uploads nothing: the draft is sent only if you send it yourself, from your own mail account, and we then receive it like any email, with your email address. We use it to fix the app and to reply, and you can ask us to delete it.
Purchases
Pro is sold through the App Store. These are the only third parties that receive data from the app, and only purchase information.
Apple sells Pro through the App Store and processes the payment. We never receive your payment details. Apple receives:
- Your purchase, under your Apple Account
The app does not send sound, your tunings or your settings to Apple. For how Apple handles data, see its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
The app uses RevenueCat to confirm purchases and to check whether Pro is active, including when the app opens. RevenueCat receives:
- Your purchase history and subscription status for this app
- An anonymous identifier the app creates on your device, which is not linked to your name or email
RevenueCat processes this data as our service provider and provides the same or equal protection of your data as this policy describes.
RevenueCat does not receive sound, your tunings or your settings. For how RevenueCat handles data, see its privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
Information we do not collect
- No account or sign-in
- No server of ours: your tunings and settings are never sent to us
- No audio recordings: sound is analyzed on your iPhone and never recorded, stored or sent
- No analytics or tracking
- No advertising
- No contacts, location or photos
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete everything: delete the app from your iPhone, which removes all the data it stored on the device.
- Purchase history: your purchase record with Apple and RevenueCat is tied to your Apple Account and stays after you delete the app, so you can restore Pro later. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to provide and restore Pro and to meet legal and accounting obligations, and RevenueCat records are deleted on request to us.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you think a child has sent us personal information by email, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
